All native Taiwanese tribes belong to the Austrone 1667468098913830421

All native Taiwanese tribes belong to the Austronesian language family. It's believed that all Austronesian languages migrated from here - Philippines, Polynesia, Micronesia, even as far as Madagascar and Easter Island. Aborigines make up only about 2% of the population, but hold a distinctive cultural position. There are 14 recognized tribes, and others unofficially recognized. My tribe, Sediq, became the 14th recognized indigenous group in 2008.Pictured: boat from the Tami people, who live on the island of Lanyu. It takes years to finish a boat; to find the proper materials and to perform the appropriate rituals. A small boat like this one is made of three layers of 21 pieces of wood.#native

“The Nobel Peace Prize was a deep recognition of the rights, struggle and tenacity of indigenous peoples. The prize represented a very strong blow to racism and discrimination.” Twenty-five years have passed since activist Rigoberta Menchú Tum received the Nobel Peace Prize, and a decade since the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. What progress has been made?At today’s Nobel Peace Prize Forum in Oslo, Menchú Tum spoke of the enormous gap between the definition of the rights of indigenous peoples and the reality, pointing to the violence towards communities as well as lost lands and languages. But added: “I am an optimistic woman… today, there are many opportunities, and we will not allow this type of violence again in our communities.”Pi Frisk / Nobel Media#nobelprize#nobelpeaceprize#nobelpeaceprizeforumoslo#rigobertamenchú#indigenouspeople#inspiration#nobellaureate

March 2014, I was sitting in the room with other 30 people from ASEAN countries, for a week training on human rights in Bandung. I was fool and had no experience, with a little skill of English. That's the first time in forever I was like slapped on face and havingwidely opened eyes about the problems happening in Kalimantan on the rights of indigenous people; land grabbing, abusement, discrimination, stigma, etc. That night in hotel room after section, I made a decision and promised to my self that when I came back to Kalimantan, I would fight for the rights of Dayak people. It's been 3 years and a lot of things happen. The problems are still there but we are not the same anymore. We are arising. Today, I still hold to my decision. The next days, I will choose over it again and again; to fight for Dayak people and indigenous rights.Ps : pic is my profile in White Paper #womenandclimatepublished by #uniceffranceunder #unicefglobalSelamat hari Hak Asasi Manusia Sedunia!! #emmanuelashinta#indigenouspeople#humanrights#worldhumanrightsday#unicef#unitednations#dayak#kalimantan#indonesia
